1. What Is a County Committee?

A County Committee is the foundation of the Republican Party’s local organization. It is made up of elected Republican volunteers who represent their neighborhoods and help guide the direction of the Party at the county level.

Serving on the County Committee is one of the most accessible and impactful ways to get involved in local politics. Members play an important role in strengthening the Party, supporting Republican candidates, and representing the interests of their communities.

County Committee responsibilities include:

  • Electing County Republican Party leadership, including the County Chair
  • Endorsing Republican candidates for local and judicial elections
  • Nominating judges and selecting candidates for certain special elections
  • Supporting and organizing Republican campaigns
  • Helping shape the Party’s platform and local priorities
  • Registering and engaging Republicanvoters
  • Encouraging civic participation and community involvement
  • Recommending qualified individuals for public appointments when appropriate

County Committee Members are dedicated Republican volunteers who serve as elected representatives within their local Election Districts.

To serve, members generally must:

  • Be a registered Republican
  • Be elected during the Republican primary election
  • Live within the Assembly District they represent
  • Serve a two-year term, with no term limits
  • Represent an Election District, typically serving approximately 700–1,000 residents (about 1–3 city blocks)
